Star Trek XI, Spock/Kirk, PG-13 (for now)

Summary: After a mission goes wrong, Kirk must deal with a de-aged Spock and fight to keep them both alive. Spock grows attached and begins to worry that he won’t remember his time with Kirk once he’s changed back.

Disclaimer: Star Trek doesn’t belong to me. This story is a work of fiction set in the world Gene Roddenberry and JJ Abrams created.

Beta read by vwalk  who I can't thank enough for doing such a great job and getting back to me so soon!

Trekkie help wanted! I’m throwing a question out to any Trek savvy readers because I couldn’t find anything conclusive in my own research. I checked the basics, Google and Memory Alpha, but found nothing. Was “Cupcake” ever credited with a real name? I know fanon has dubbed him Giotto (not every fic, but a number of them). However, Giotto was older in TOS and I doubt he was at the academy the same time as Kirk (especially nu!Kirk). I always thought of Cupcake as being more of a Finnegan character, only without the horrible Leprechaun-y interpretation of an Irish accent, since Finnegan was at the academy with TOS!Kirk and bullied him. Cupcake does have reddish hair. Anyone think Abrams wanted to hint at Irish roots without including a distractingly fake accent? Then again, Cupcake is the main symbol of the security team we receive in the film and Giotto is a security chief. You see my dilemma.

Thoughts, please? I haven't checked the movie script or the novelization yet, so anyone who's versed in those lay the knowledge on me. :D

Edit: The script referred to him as “Burly Cadet #1”.

Hello all,

I thought I should give a brief status update on my works in progress.

Defining Love chapter 49—I don’t have a clue when it’ll be done. Sorry. Maybe Christmas-ish.

Imprint chapter 10—Finished! My wonderful beta said she’d get back to me on Sunday, so expect the chapter to be posted then. Sadly, I have no clue when chapter 11 will be done. I haven’t even started it yet and I won’t have any time to dedicate to writing fanfiction this semester, so let’s say Christmas-ish again.

On a not entirely unrelated note, I’m going to start a series of posts on my journal that address some of my biggest complaints in fanfiction writing and fandom in general. The posts will be self-satisfying rants against bad writing and the worst clichés out there. This is pretty much a way for me to vent frustrations, not simply from years of reading fanfiction, but also from my upcoming semester. I’ll shape the posts into coherent, logical arguments, but expect them to read more like rants than essays.

I welcome everyone to comment on the posts and offer your own opinions. Seriously, if the comment character limit cuts you off, just comment again. I won’t mind.

I won’t be singling out specific authors or stories and I certainly won’t name names, but I will be giving examples of the writing I criticize (slightly altered from the stories I’ve actually read them in to ensure anonymity).

A few examples of the topics I’ll be addressing:
-Potty mouth dialogue when the characters never swore in canon (authors thinking the f-bomb makes their characters sound mature when it really kills the conversation).
-Improper dialogue punctuation (authors too lazy to pick up a book or Google what they should have learned before graduating high school).
-Bad summary writing (the vague, ambiguous summaries that tell readers nothing about the plot, or the authors who announce that they can’t write summaries and say their story is still good “so just read it!”).
-Bad characterizations (authors who spend so much time perfecting one character that they ignore the others, or authors who make bad ass men like Kirk, McCoy, Eames, Arthur, and others seem like sullen pre-teens angsting for a diary).
-Clichés (not all are bad, just most of them).

If there are any topics you’d like me to look into and comment on, please tell me.

Hi all,
I came across this and jumped at the chance to use someone else's amazing art skills. You can get the template free of bubble text here: My Little Unicorn. The artist is [info]paperflower86 and everyone is invited to make their own little story to go with the art.

Here are the ones I've done so far.

The amazing Xander B beta read this chapter for me. Thank you so much!

I’m not sure if anyone other than myself actually frequents my LJ page when it doesn’t involve a fic post, so this entry may be lost by the wayside. Feel free to comment. I’d love hearing that I’m not the only one with no free time.

For those of you who’ve been following Defining Love, my lack of updates is hardly a surprise. But for those of you following Imprint, it might seem like I’ve abandoned the story. I promise you it’s not abandoned. I’m just a horrible updater.

What’s my excuse, you ask (did you ask? I couldn’t hear you asking over the sound of my own ego inflating). I’ll tell you. I got into grad school back in January (hold the applause). It hasn’t exactly been the higher learning experience I’d hoped for. I should be grateful, since I honestly didn’t think I had any chance of getting in, but it’s hard to be grateful when I’m on my first semester and already in more debt than I was for my entire undergrad degree. I work during the weekday, so I’m doing night classes. I was not prepared. Holy crap you guys. I’m taking a minimum of 12 credits and it’s easily twice the amount of reading and work compared to when I was overloaded on 22 credits as an undergraduate. I’m not sure getting my MA is worth this. Any thoughts?

Anyway, here’s what you really care about:

Imprint chapter 10 is 90% complete. Needs tweaking and a visit to my beta.

Defining Love chapter 47 is 98% complete. Needs a once over by a beta who I have yet to enlist the help of.

Defining Love chapter 48 is 52% complete. Needs work and a decent resolution… 0_o

On the note of resolutions, I’m afraid I’ll disappoint everyone who’s been reading Defining Love. Is it arrogant of me to assume y’all have high expectations? I don’t see how I can end this massive epic (over 300,000 words!) that’s been 5 years in the making and not disappoint you guys. It’s not like I have some cop out ending in mind. I am known for ambiguous endings in my original work, but in fandom I’m a sucker for fluff and pretty ribbons that tie everything together nicely. There won’t be any wedding bells, so rest easy, but I’m still not sure how to leave off. Whilst I’m brainstorming, I welcome input. How much closure do y’all need?

My erstwhile hope is to complete Defining Love during this Spring break. If my track record is anything to go by, I haven’t a snowball’s chance in hell. If ch. 48 doesn’t come along fast enough, I’ll post ch. 47 and hope you don’t hate me for having to wait for the conclusion.

Imprint is next in line for an update. I actually have two breaks (small mercy), so chapter 10 will definitely be up around the end of April. Once this semester is over (middle of May) I’ll be throwing myself back into the story and updates can be expected more frequently.

Star Trek XI, Spock/Kirk, rated R (swearing, adult themes, partial nudity)

Summary: Spock has been a good boy this year. Santa brought him a special present.

Note: This is a very loose parody of Clement Moore’s “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” This poetry/art/comic collaboration is total crack. I have no excuse. This is my first experiment with Photoshop and digital coloring. It's addictive. ^_^
